Believe it or not, your on-camera wardrobe can send all sorts of subliminal messages to your tribe.
Including, wow she looks like a stalker.
There’s a difference between what we see in person vs. what the camera sees (I dive right into this in the video).
In today’s video, I teach you all about how an audition to play “the girl next door”, led me to create what I call “The Stalker Test”.
Give it a look, and make sure that you project the right kind of energy (through your wardrobe) in your videos.
Then leave a comment below and let me know if you passed The Stalker Test.
Did you pass?
Make sure you do this test for your wardrobe well ahead of your shoots, so you know exactly what looks great on-camera and what doesn’t.
And as always…
Dream up.

I have a few online coaching clients I am “meeting” with today via online video. I tried out the stalker test and realized my white wrap maternity shirt actually looks like a straightjacket on camera. I’m 8 months pregnant, so clothes are not fitting the same one month to the next right now. Climbing into a more open neckline now…. Thank you for saving me!
Hehe, just in time Carmen! Yep, the straight-jacket look is not so inviting on-camera, lol. Have awesome sessions!
I kept laughing every time stalker you popped up. I don’t have to take a pic to know my at home old shirt is not going to pass the test. I don’t take the selfies but I do sit for a minute and look at myself and make sure clothes and makeup look right for my videos. Although I do have an art one where you do see the sleeve of my ragged hoodie.
That put a smile on my face Beth! Actually my shirt right now wouldn’t pass the test either, lol. Keep rockin’ it lady.
I hate how I look in pictures, especially selfies but realize that video is where I need to get to one of these days. Today the image isn’t too bad (but there are some days I wouldn’t even take that picture because it definitely would NOT pass the stalker test! I love your style and approach. Thank you for sharing this great tip!
Hi Stephanie, thanks for sharing where you’re coming from.
Here’s the GREAT news: moving past that feeling around how you look in pictures (and in videos) is soooo doable. There are lots of tricks – some of which are technical, but many are around mindset – that can transform how you approach this whole “visibility” arena.
I’m so happy that you got something valuable from the video (lol I wouldn’t pass the test today either). 🙂
Thanks so much for this. I’m just getting into video and feeling so uncomfortable. This helps (a little)
Hi DeBorah~ my pleasure. Happy to help! Getting comfortable on-camera is like building a muscle. When you approach it the right way you build up your strength, one practice video at a time.
What happens when you try making videos? Forget what to say? Get super nervous? Your behaviour is really awkward? Feel scared?
PS – Have you snagged my 5-day visibility challenge? I think it’ll do wonders for your first video steps >> https://jo.my/visibilityrsvp
